The author, Maree Bento's, intention for the Lua Lenormand was to stay close to the traditional images with directional significance for use with the petit Lenormand method. Maree also sorted through many portraits to find sixteen diverse significator card options. The price for her to produce a 36-card deck was about the same as a 54-card deck, so Maree wanted to add as many significators as she could.
During the creation process of the Lua Tarot, Maree found images that she thought worked really well for a Lenormand deck. As the Lua Tarot was preparing to go into production, Maree started working on the Lua Lenormand with the intention for it to work with the Lua Tarot, as a companion deck.
